Commentary on the Old and New Testaments
Daniel Whedon, Editor
14 vols.
Wesleyan Daniel Whedon was a central figure in the struggle between Calvinism and Arminianism. His works are studied to this day for context on the debate over free will. Whedon spent over 25 years developing this commentary. He authored all the New Testament volumes himself while other ministers authored the Old Testament volumes. As another has said,
This 14 volume commentary analyzes the entire Bible, and provides background, history and word studies for each book. It is intended for the English reader and does not require a knowledge of the original languages.
Though intended for popular use, it is very comprehensive, with over 22,000 verse-by-verse comments. Easy to read and with a concise feel, it is still considered both scholarly and “readable.”
This commentary set does not only include all the text and notes of the 14 volume prinited edition, it also includes over 450 images of charts, maps, and "cuts."
